Todd Thrasher
Todd Thrasher brings to Signatures a passion for providing excellent
service and a national reputation for his expert knowledge of wine.
Certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Todd continually refines
Signatures’ wine list to complement Executive Chef/Partner Morou’s
American cuisine with a global accent. Together, Todd and Morou work
to offer innovative events at Signatures, designed to educate and entertain,
such as the restaurant’s popular Southern Hemisphere Wine Dinner
Series. The series features six-course special menus, complemented by
wines from the Southern Hemisphere’s growing regions including
South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and Chile.
At Signatures, Todd has the opportunity to share his expertise with
luminaries ranging from leaders of Congress to stars such as Arnold
Schwarzenegger and Harry Belafonte. Visits by Miss America, the cast
of the West Wing, Mayor Anthony Williams and other notables prompted
The Wall Street Journal to dub Signatures “DC’s spot
for movers and shakers.”
Todd first discovered the extensive world of wines while working at
the award-winning Gabriel Restaurant. After mastering beverage management,
Todd became a floor manager at Café Atlantico, where he played
a key role in the restaurant’s opening. At Café Atlantico,
Todd continued to hone his knowledge of wine, and earned critical acclaim
for his innovative drink recipes and wine list. His wine list –
considered by some to be the most extensive list of South American wines
in the United States – was awarded the Wine Spectator Award
of Excellence in 1999, 2000 and 2001, and was featured in such national
publications as Food Arts and Wine & Spirits.
Prior to coming to Signatures, Todd was credited by Robert Shoffner
of Washingtonian for building “the most remarkable wine
list in town.” Tom Sietsema of The Washington Post wrote
of Todd, “To miss a chance to discuss wines with him is to waive
a serious part of the fun…his passion shines through.”
